GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS |
||
Chemically Isoserine is 2-hydroxy-3-aminopropanoic acid which is a isomeric compound with serine (2-Amino-3-hydroxypropionic acid), a nonessential amino acid. Isoserine moiety is found in isepamicin, an antiboitic against aerobic gram-negative bacilli and some gram-positive bacteria which are resist to aminoglycosides. It is also found in taxane derivatives which show one of the most promising antitumor activity. Natural taxol is found only in minute quantities in the bark. Semi-synthetic taxols are under research to meet the great demand. N-Benzoyl-(2R,3S)-3-phenylisoserine is an essential chiral side chain for the biological activity of taxol (paclitaxel), N-Carboxy-(2R,3S)-3-phenylisoserine is an ester moiety of side chain of docetaxel. |
